Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. The Wright Direction is in network with select insurance plans. Coverage and benefits vary by plan, so we encourage you to confirm your mental health benefits directly with your insurance provider.

Please visit our Payments and Insurance page for information about participating insurance plans, self-pay options, and out-of-network benefits.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

Therapy services are currently offered exclusively through a secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual platform. Psychological evaluations may be conducted virtually or in person, depending on the nature of the referral and evaluation.

Dr. Gillon-Wright is independently licensed in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Washington state. She is also authorized to provide virtual psychological services in participating PSYPACT jurisdictions.

To determine whether your state participates in PSYPACT, please visit the PSYPACT website.

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

A Clinical Psychologist is a licensed mental health professional with advanced training in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and psychological concerns. Clinical Psychologists may provide psychotherapy, psychological assessment, consultation, and other specialized psychological services.

Clinical Psychologists generally do not prescribe medication. When appropriate, they may collaborate with Psychiatrists, Primary Care Providers, and other healthcare professionals as part of an individual's broader care.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please contact us as soon as possible. Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled appointment.

Appointments canceled with less than 48 hours' notice, as well as missed appointments (no-shows), will be charged the full session fee. Cancellation and no-show fees are the responsibility of the client and are not covered by insurance.

What can I expect during the complimentary consultation?

The complimentary 20-minute consultation is a brief, no-obligation conversation to discuss what brings you here, learn more about the services you are seeking, and ask questions about the process. It also provides an opportunity to determine whether The Wright Direction may be a good fit for your needs.

The consultation is not a therapy session or psychological evaluation.

What should I do in case of a mental health emergency?

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency or are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For immediate crisis support, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.

The Wright Direction does not provide emergency or crisis intervention services. If you need immediate assistance, please use one of the resources above.

What is a Forensic Psychologist?

A Forensic Psychologist applies psychological knowledge and expertise to questions involving the legal system. This may include conducting psychological evaluations, consulting on psycho-legal issues, reviewing records, and providing expert opinions or testimony in legal proceedings.

Unlike therapy, forensic psychological services are generally focused on addressing a specific legal or psycho-legal question. The Psychologist's role is to provide objective, well-supported findings and opinions within the scope of the evaluation or consultation.

Can I switch therapists if I do not feel comfortable?

Finding the right therapeutic fit is important. If you feel that another provider may better meet your needs, you are welcome to discuss your concerns with Dr. Wright. When appropriate, referrals to other providers or resources may be offered to help you identify another option for care.
